Method
How we check one Reel's views
Compared with the creator’s own recent Reels and with Instagram creators of the same size in Sup’s data.
Bought views add plays and almost nothing else. Real viewers like, comment, share and save. Instagram keeps the share and save counts off the Reel itself, but we read them from the post’s own record, so the check covers all five numbers.
Each number is compared with the creator’s own last 12 Reels and with the range for creators with the same number of followers, from 36,513 Instagram posts by 25,225 creators that Sup tracks. A Reel has to sit in the bottom 5% of that data and far below the creator’s own Reels before we call it very unusual. We also read the first comments and count how many are emoji only, a stock phrase or repeated text.
Our data
Normal like and comment rates on Instagram
These are the ranges the checker uses. A Reel is always compared with accounts of its own size.
| Follower tier | Posts | Likes per 100 views | Comments per 100 likes |
|---|---|---|---|
| under 10k followers | 13,619 | 3.0 (1.2 to 6.6) | 7.1 (0.85 to 30.7) |
| 10k to 100k followers | 15,472 | 2.8 (1.0 to 7.0) | 5.0 (0.68 to 23.8) |
| 100k to 500k followers | 5,709 | 2.7 (0.88 to 6.5) | 2.4 (0.46 to 13.6) |
| 500k to 1M followers | 981 | 2.8 (0.83 to 6.4) | 2.0 (0.45 to 11.3) |
| over 1M followers | 732 | 2.8 (0.90 to 6.8) | 1.4 (0.32 to 7.0) |
Median, with the 10th and 90th percentile in brackets. From 36,513 Instagram posts by 25,225 creators that Sup tracks, a random sample of the last 12 months, read 29 October 2026. Likes per view count only posts with 1,000 views or more, and comments per like only posts with 50 likes or more.
Reading the result
What looks unusual, and what does not
High plays, few likes
Many times the creator’s usual plays with a like rate far below their normal. Bought views look like this. So does a boosted Reel.
Likes, no comments
A normal like rate with almost no comments. Likes are cheap to buy and comments are not.
Shares and saves
People send and save Reels they value. Plenty of both makes bought views very unlikely.
A real hit
Far more plays than usual with the likes growing at the same rate. That is the Reels feed picking it up.
Paid partnership
A Reel with the paid partnership label is often boosted by the brand, which brings plays with fewer likes. The result says so.
Plays that fall
Check the same Reel later. A play count that went down means Instagram took plays away.
In practice
What to do with an unusual result
Treat it as a question, not an answer. Ask the creator for a screenshot of the Reel’s insights: reach, accounts reached that do not follow them, and top countries. Then check the whole account with the fake engagement checker and the audience with the fake follower check. For what a normal Reel gets, use the average views calculator.
FAQ
Instagram fake views questions
How can you tell if Instagram Reel views are fake?
Bought views arrive without the likes, comments, shares and saves that real viewers leave. The main test is the like rate: how many viewers liked the Reel, against the creator’s other Reels and against creators of the same size. Far more views than usual with a like rate far below normal is the clearest public sign.
What is a normal like rate on Instagram Reels?
In Sup’s data, an Instagram creator with 10k to 100k followers gets a median of 2.8 likes per 100 views on a Reel, and 9 in 10 get more than 1.0. Reels reach many people who do not follow the creator, so the rate sits lower than on TikTok.
Can I check a photo or a carousel?
No. Instagram shows a view count only on Reels and videos. For photos and carousels, use the fake engagement checker, which compares likes and comments across the whole account.
What if the creator hides their likes?
Then the like rate cannot be worked out, and the result says so. Ask the creator for a screenshot of the Reel’s insights, which show likes, reach and where the viewers came from.
Can this tool prove that someone bought views?
No. Public numbers cannot show where views came from. A boosted Reel, a paid partnership or a Reel shared to Facebook can all look unusual. The tool says which number sits outside the normal range and what that can mean, and never calls a creator fake.
What does the second reading show?
The first time anyone checks a Reel, we keep its public counts. Check it again an hour or more later and the result shows how much views, likes and comments moved in between. A view count that goes down means Instagram removed views.
Is the Instagram fake views checker free?
Yes, with no sign-up. Each visitor can run 20 new checks an hour and 60 a day. A Reel checked in the last hour loads from our cache.
