Method

How we count TikTok views

Average views=sum of plays×videos in the sample

The latest public videos at least a day old, up to 15, paid ads left out. The median and the best and quietest video are shown beside it.

TikTok shows a play count on every public video, so unlike Instagram the average covers every format the account posts. We read the counts at the moment of the check and keep them for three days. A video under a day old is still climbing, so it stays out of the sample.

The median matters more than the average on TikTok. Views there are lopsided: a video the For You feed picks up can reach a hundred times the account’s usual audience. The consistency score, the median divided by the average, tells you how lopsided this account is.

What brand posts got on TikTok

These are the views Sup measured on creator posts that featured a brand, in the categories we have studied, grouped by follower count. They are a sensible floor for what a paid post might get. A creator whose everyday videos sit far above them has room to deliver.

What moves TikTok views

The first seconds

TikTok tests every video on a small audience first. Videos that hold attention early get shown to more people, which is why the same creator can get 2,000 views one day and 200,000 the next.

Posting rhythm

Accounts that post several times a week give the feed more chances to find a hit. A long gap usually shows up as lower views on the next few videos.

Trends and sounds

A trending sound or format can lift views for a few days. Check whether the best videos were trend videos or the creator’s own format.

Account age

Older accounts often have many followers who no longer watch, so views per follower falls over time even when the content is good.

Brand content

Posts that feature a product usually get fewer views than the creator’s normal videos. Look at the creator’s past brand posts, not only their best ones.

Audience location

Views from outside your market do not sell your product. Ask for the country split from the creator’s own analytics.

In practice

Using views to price a TikTok post

Take the median views, not the average, and treat it as the most likely result for a paid post. Divide the quoted fee by that number and multiply by 1,000 to get a cost per thousand views. The CPM calculator does the sum and lets you compare creators side by side.

Then check the engagement rate. High views with very few likes, comments or shares can mean the audience scrolls past. And ask for the numbers only the creator can see: watch time, completion rate and audience country.

The median video’s views as a share of followers. Over 100% means the account’s videos regularly travel beyond its followers through the For You feed. Well under 10% means most followers are not seeing the videos, which is common on large or older accounts.

The median divided by the average. A score near 1 means the videos perform about the same every time. A score of 0.2 means a few big hits sit on top of many quiet videos, so a single paid post is a gamble.
