TikTok engagement rate calculator

Enter a TikTok handle and we pull the latest videos, add likes, comments and shares, and give the engagement rate two ways: against followers and against views. Every video is listed, so one viral clip cannot hide what a normal one does.

How we calculate TikTok engagement

TikTok is judged two ways, and the tool gives you both. Most views on TikTok come from the For You feed, not from followers, so a rate measured against followers and a rate measured against views answer different questions.

By followers=likes + comments + shares÷followers×100

Worked out for each recent video, then averaged. The median video is shown beside it.

By views=likes + comments + shares÷views×100

Worked out for each recent video. We show the median, because one viral video can drag an average a long way.

The sample is the latest public videos that are at least a day old, up to 15. Newer videos are still collecting views and likes, so they would pull the rate around. Paid ads are left out. Saves are shown separately and not added in, which keeps our rate comparable with other calculators.

What Sup measured on TikTok

We do not grade an account against an industry average. We have not found one worth trusting. The table below is what we measured ourselves: creator posts on TikTok that featured a brand, in the categories Sup has studied, grouped by the creator’s follower count.

TikTok creator posts that featured a brand, by follower tier, from Sup’s category benchmarks

over 1M followers614187,8752%0.12%

Medians of the category medians in Sup’s creator engagement rate by category benchmark, generated 10 September 2026. Each post featured a brand in a category we measured, so these figures sit below a creator’s everyday videos. Cells with fewer than five posts are left out.

Read it as a floor for sponsored and brand-tagged content, not as a target for everyday videos. Posts that feature a brand usually earn fewer likes per view than a creator’s normal videos. If a creator’s brand posts perform close to their everyday posts, that is a good sign for a campaign.

What moves a TikTok engagement rate

For You reach

A video pushed to the For You feed collects views from strangers. That lifts views faster than likes, so the rate by views falls while the rate by followers rises.

Account size

Small accounts are followed by people who know the creator and respond to most videos. Large accounts are followed by people who saw one clip once. Compare like with like.

Video age

A video keeps collecting views and likes for days. We leave out anything under a day old, but a very active account will still have a few young videos in the sample.

Giveaways and duets

A giveaway or a trend duet can carry many times the usual comments. The video by video row shows which videos did it.

Bought engagement

Bought likes arrive without comments or shares. A video with a high like count and almost no comments or shares deserves a closer look.

Niche

Food, comedy and beauty audiences comment and share more than most. A finance or B2B creator can be healthy at a rate that would look low on a food account.

In practice

How to use the rate when you book a TikTok creator

Start with the median video, not the average. It tells you what a normal post does, which is what you are buying. Then look at the rate by views on the videos that featured a brand: if they hold up, the audience does not switch off when a product appears.

Check shares and saves. A share puts the video in front of someone new, and a save means the viewer wants to come back to it. Both are worth more to a brand than a like.

Then ask the creator for the numbers only they can see: average watch time, completion rate, and where the views came from. A creator who is proud of their audience will send the screenshots the same day. To price a post, the CPM calculator turns a fee and a view count into a cost per thousand views.

Manual calculator

Calculate from your own numbers

If you have the figures from a media kit or a screenshot, enter the follower count and the average likes and comments per video.

Average the last 10–12 posts (skip giveaways — they inflate the number). Works for Instagram and TikTok alike.

Engagement rate

Enter the numbers to see the rate and how it compares.

Bands are a rough industry guide. We vet every creator against live category data before a booking.

FAQ

TikTok engagement rate questions

We take the most recent public videos that are at least a day old, up to 15, and leave out paid ads. For each video we add likes, comments and shares. Divided by followers, that gives the engagement rate by followers, which we average across the videos. Divided by the video’s own views, it gives the engagement rate by views, and we show the median of those.

Use both, for different questions. By followers tells you how much of the audience you are paying for responds. By views tells you how people react once they have seen a video, which matters on TikTok because most views come from the For You feed rather than from followers. A creator can be modest on one and strong on the other.

There is no single good number. It depends on the size of the account, the niche and the formula, so the fair test is accounts of the same size in the same niche. Posts that feature a brand run lower than everyday videos: across the 11 categories Sup measures, creators with 10k to 100k followers had a median of 0.48% likes and comments per view on those posts. Compare a creator with accounts of the same size, and look at the video by video row before you decide.

Most calculators leave saves out, so including them would make our number impossible to compare. We still show average saves beside the rate, because a video people save is one they plan to act on, and that matters for a product.

TikTok’s own analytics use reach and watch data that only the account owner can see. A public tool can only use the likes, comments, shares and views TikTok shows everyone. Our numbers also move a little over the day as new likes arrive, so compare figures from the same tool on the same day.

It can lift the average a lot. That is why we show the median video next to the average and list every video in the sample. If the average is far above the median, one or two videos are carrying the account.

No. TikTok only shows a private account’s videos to approved followers, so there is nothing public to count. The tool says so and stops.

Yes. There is no sign-up. Each visitor can run 20 new lookups an hour and 60 a day, and repeat checks on an account already looked up in the last three days are free.

How do you calculate TikTok engagement rate?

We take the most recent public videos that are at least a day old, up to 15, and leave out paid ads. For each video we add likes, comments and shares. Divided by followers, that gives the engagement rate by followers, which we average across the videos. Divided by the video’s own views, it gives the engagement rate by views, and we show the median of those.

Should I use engagement by followers or by views on TikTok?

Use both, for different questions. By followers tells you how much of the audience you are paying for responds. By views tells you how people react once they have seen a video, which matters on TikTok because most views come from the For You feed rather than from followers. A creator can be modest on one and strong on the other.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

There is no single good number. It depends on the size of the account, the niche and the formula, so the fair test is accounts of the same size in the same niche. Posts that feature a brand run lower than everyday videos: across the 11 categories Sup measures, creators with 10k to 100k followers had a median of 0.48% likes and comments per view on those posts. Compare a creator with accounts of the same size, and look at the video by video row before you decide.

Why are saves not in the engagement rate?

Most calculators leave saves out, so including them would make our number impossible to compare. We still show average saves beside the rate, because a video people save is one they plan to act on, and that matters for a product.

Why is my rate different from TikTok analytics?

TikTok’s own analytics use reach and watch data that only the account owner can see. A public tool can only use the likes, comments, shares and views TikTok shows everyone. Our numbers also move a little over the day as new likes arrive, so compare figures from the same tool on the same day.

Does one viral video distort the result?

It can lift the average a lot. That is why we show the median video next to the average and list every video in the sample. If the average is far above the median, one or two videos are carrying the account.

Does the calculator work on private accounts?

No. TikTok only shows a private account’s videos to approved followers, so there is nothing public to count. The tool says so and stops.

Is this TikTok engagement rate calculator free?

Yes. There is no sign-up. Each visitor can run 20 new lookups an hour and 60 a day, and repeat checks on an account already looked up in the last three days are free.
