They call it the sunshine state for a reason, you know. The tropical hot spot of Miami is home to some of the best beaches in the world. Crack open the sunscreen and enjoy some of the best sandy spots in the city.
1. Lummus Park Beach
Situated on the eastern side of Ocean Drive, sun worshippers flock to Lummus beach to play volleyball or just sunbathe. The abundance of palm trees give you plenty of shade and there’s plenty of facilities including showers and toilets. If you’re a fan of Miami Vice, some of the scenes were shot at this location.

2. South Pointe Park Pier
This 17-acre park is the perfect place to escape from city life. It comes with washing stations, picnic areas and fishing promenades as well as some good restaurants. If you want to grab a few holiday snaps bring your camera and nab a few shots of the picturesque Fischer Island and Biscayne Bay.

This small oceanfront community is home to 6000 residents who like to flock to their local beach to listen to live music, have a drink at one of the nearby bars, or just lounge in the sun. If you want to escape the heat, the Surfside Community Centre houses one of the best waterparks in the city, and if you’re worried about safety, you’ll be pleased to hear that during the summer season lifeguards are on full time duty.

4. Haulover Beach
Haulover beach attracts visitors from all over the world drawn to its pristine sandy shores and great surf. Located between Sunny Isles and Bal Harbour, expect landscaped dunes, picnic areas and a Tuesday food truck festival. For those that want to bare themselves to the elements, there’s a ‘clothing optional’ beach in the area too – close your eyes if you’re squeamish!

5. Sunny Isles Beach
Sunny Isles Beach stretches for 2 miles and is nestled north of Haulover beach. Upmarket hotels and luxury beach properties line the shores including Trumps Luxury Beach Resort. If you’re feeling peckish, the area also has a great selection of world-renowned restaurants.

6. 21st-45th Street Beach
Just a short hop from some of the most upmarket hotels and beach clubs you’ll find a small stretch of sand that’s perfect if you want to avoid the crowds at some of the busier beaches. If you like your cardio, there’s a great jogging trail and shower facilities to cool yourself down.
7. Crandon Park Beach
Crandon Park is well known for its beach that boasts crystal clear, shallow waters. It’s a perfect place for a family outing with a nature centre and a family amusement centre nearby. There are picnic spots complete with on-site grills and the option to rent cabanas. Definitely worth a visit.
